Police have arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl in Narail’s Kalia upazila.
The accused, Siddique Molya, was apprehended after the victim’s maternal uncle filed a case at the Naragati Police Station on Monday (June 15).
According to the case dossier, the incident occurred on Sunday (June 14) morning. The victim and her younger sister were gathering palm fruits near a jute field close to their home. The accused, who was already working in the field, allegedly grabbed the 11-year-old and dragged her inside. To prevent intervention, he reportedly tied the younger sister to a nearby papaya tree using a towel.
Hearing the child's screams, relatives rushed to the scene and rescued her. The police complaint notes that Siddique subsequently threatened the family with false legal charges if they reported the incident to the authorities.
Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed the arrest, stating that police took swift action immediately after the victim's family formally lodged the complaint.
