Gazipur, a major industrial hub in Bangladesh, houses 394,000 economic units and employs over 2.53 million people, significantly driving the country's industrialization, job creation, and overall economic growth.
These figures were revealed Monday at the "Economic Census 2024 - National Report Seminar," held at the Bhawal Conference Room in Gazipur.
Speaking as the chief guest, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan emphasized the need to expand the census's reach. He stressed that neighborhood small businesses and local shops must be included, and officials must clearly explain the value of the census to these business owners.
To ensure accurate data collection, Bhuiyan advised surveyors to avoid complex jargon and use simple, accessible language that everyday people can easily understand. Citing the district's booming industrial and SME sectors, he described Gazipur as a primary engine of Bangladesh’s industrial economy.
The seminar was chaired by Gazipur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Shahriar Nazir. Special guests included Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mamunur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam, Additional District Magistrate Salma Khatun, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tania Tabassum, and District Statistics Office Deputy Director Mahnuma Khanam.
Local officials and speakers at the event expressed hope that the 2024 census data will play a critical role in shaping future economic planning for both Gazipur and the nation.
