A preparatory workshop on sustainable urban development was held at the Faridpur Municipality Hall on Sunday morning. Jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank, the event focused on building modern infrastructure, improving civic services, and drafting long-term urban plans.
The initiative is part of the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project (RUTDP), executed in partnership with the Faridpur Municipality.
Faridpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sohrab Hossain chaired the session. Moderated by the Municipality's Chief Executive Officer, the workshop featured presentations from RUTDP and local government engineers—including Shamsul Alam and Mosharraf Hossain—who outlined the core objectives of the master plan.
Around 50 local representatives participated in the event, including political leaders, civil society members, government officials, and Town Level Coordination Committee (TLCC) members. They actively shared recommendations to shape the municipality's upcoming development roadmap.
Speakers emphasized that long-term planning is essential to building an eco-friendly and disaster-resilient city. Under the RUTDP project, a comprehensive master plan will be drafted to address both the immediate and future needs of Faridpur's residents.
Discussions heavily focused on critical public needs: upgrading road infrastructure, modernizing the drainage system, improving waste management, ensuring a safe water supply, and strengthening environmental protections.
Officials confirmed that the public feedback gathered during the workshop will directly inform the final sustainable development plan. Participants expressed hope that this community-driven approach will ultimately create a more livable, modern, and resilient Faridpur.
