The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned India's Acting High Commissioner, Pawan Barde, to lodge a formal protest after Indian immigration authorities barred Prime Minister's Policy and Strategy Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman from entering Delhi. Diplomatic sources confirmed the development to Jugantar.
Advisor Rahman arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening to lead the Bangladesh delegation at a two-day Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) senior officials' meeting. Despite having prior diplomatic clearance, Indian immigration initially denied him entry.
Although Indian higher authorities later intervened to grant permission, Rahman declined to enter Delhi. He opted to return to Dhaka via Colombo, arriving on Monday afternoon.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman called the airport detention "unwanted and regrettable," adding that the ministry is taking appropriate diplomatic actions in response to the incident.
