PM Tarique Rahman to Visit US for 81st UNGA Session

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the United States this September for the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York followed by an expected trip to San Francisco to engage with the Bangladeshi diaspora.

This visit holds historic significance as Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman will preside over the 81st UNGA session. Prime Minister Rahman is expected to arrive in New York on September 21. Beyond attending the UNGA he plans to hold bilateral meetings with global leaders and is tentatively slated to address the Assembly on September 24 under Dr. Khalilur’s presidency.

Following his official UN engagements, a civic reception for the Prime Minister will be held in New York on September 25. He is then expected to visit the San Francisco Bay Area from September 26 to 28. The California leg of the tour aims to strengthen ties with Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, engineers and tech professionals, encouraging their active investment and participation in Bangladesh’s economic growth.

California BNP President Badrul Alam Chowdhury Shiplu noted the widespread excitement among expatriates. He emphasized the visit's potential to become a milestone for Bangladesh’s economy through deeper connections with US-based professionals. The entire US tour is expected to span eight to ten days with officials currently finalizing the itinerary.
