Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left New York for Dhaka on Friday night after completing a five-day official visit to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
An Emirates flight carrying the Prime Minister, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and the official delegation departed John F. Kennedy International Airport at 11:30 PM (New York time). Following a transit in Dubai Prime Minister is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on September 27.
During his maiden address to the UN General Assembly on September 24, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman outlined Bangladesh’s vision for world peace, sustainable development, and economic growth. He called for resolving global conflicts through diplomacy and highlighted his government's "3-R" strategy Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction to build a prosperous and self-reliant nation.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with several world leaders including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Discussions centered on expanding economic partnerships, regional security and trade. He also met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and Wall Street representatives to boost investment in Bangladesh.
Highlighting key global issues, Tarique Rahman urged immediate global action on climate change, specifically calling for predictable climate financing and deeper emission cuts. On the Rohingya crisis, he reaffirmed that safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation to Myanmar remains the only viable solution also seeking stronger international support.
Economic diplomacy remained a core focal point of the trip, highlighted by Biman Bangladesh Airlines signing an agreement with Boeing to purchase 11 new aircraft to expand international routes.
