The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) organized an awareness campaign at Shaheed Jahangir High School on Tuesday afternoon to educate students on consumer rights, product fraud and legal remedies.
Presided over by the school's Headmaster, Md. Shamsul Alam, the event featured Asaduzzaman Rumel, Deputy Director of DNCRP Tangail as the chief guest. Abu Zubayer Ujjal, General Secretary of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Tangail unit also spoke at the seminar.
"There are strict legal provisions to punish businesses that engage in price-gouging, sell adulterated goods or cheat customers," Asaduzzaman Rumel told the students. He explained that cheated consumers can file written complaints with the department to get financial remedies, receiving a 25% share of any administrative fine imposed on the wrongdoer. He urged the youth to act as ambassadors for fair trade in their communities.
Following the discussion, students took part in a quiz competition centered on consumer rights laws. Ninth-graders Emon, Eva and Arabi won the top three prizes. Teachers, students and guardians attended the event.
