


The body of seven-year-old Kabita Akhtar was recovered on Thursday morning, seven days after she went missing from her home in Faridpur Sadar.
Police discovered the remains in a banana orchard near Bakhunda Railway Station in Gerda Union at approximately 11:30 am. Kabita, the youngest of five sisters and a Class 1 student at Bokail Government Primary School, had been missing since the evening of Friday, April 24. Her mother, Tahmina Begum, had previously filed a general diary (GD) with the Kotwali Police Station.
The body was first spotted by two local workers, Sona Sheikh and Dulal Mia, while they were clearing a fallen tree. Alerted by a strong odor, they discovered the remains and immediately informed the local Union Parishad (UP) member.
"A worker noticed the smell while clearing a fallen banana tree," said Md. Zakaria Khan, UP Member of Ward 5. "Upon finding the body, we alerted the police and the child's parents, who later identified her at the scene."
Sub-Inspector (SI) Piyush Kanti Halder, who led the recovery, noted that the body was severely decomposed and mutilated. Preliminary evidence suggests the child may have been murdered on the day she disappeared.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station confirmed the inciden "The body was found in a decomposed state, and the parents identified the child by her clothing. We suspect this is a case of murder. The remains have been sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy."
Police are currently preparing to file a formal murder case.
