The outgoing Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong, Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, paid a courtesy call on Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain at the Tiger Pass office on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain thanked Dr. Ranjan for his cooperation during his four-year tenure in Bangladesh. Highlighting the cultural ties between the two nations, the Mayor noted, “India’s strength lies in its diversity. Having visited frequently for both personal and academic reasons, I appreciate the distinct cultures across its states.”
The Mayor also advocated for smoother travel, stating that simplifying and accelerating the visa process would significantly benefit Bangladeshis traveling for medical, educational, and religious purposes.
In response, Dr. Ranjan praised the city’s natural beauty and economic prospects. “Chittagong holds immense potential, particularly in tourism, with sites like Bhatiari, Patenga, and Foy’s Lake,” he said. He emphasized that utilizing these resources would bolster Chittagong’s role in the regional economy.
The meeting, attended by senior CCC officials including the Chief Executive Officer, concluded with the Mayor presenting a memento to the outgoing diplomat.
