CCC Mayor Warns Against Waste Disposal to Prevent Waterlogging

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain warned on Tuesday that indiscriminate waste disposal will lead to severe waterlogging by clogging the city's vital canals and drains.

During an inspection of the Bahaddarhat Kacha Bazar area on Tuesday (May 4) morning, the Mayor emphasized that infrastructure projects alone cannot solve the crisis. "Permanent relief from waterlogging is impossible without public awareness and cooperation," he stated. "We must work together to keep Chittagong clean and livable."

Expressing frustration over illegal encroachments, Dr. Shahadat ordered the immediate demolition of structures obstructing public roads.

The Mayor also reviewed ongoing canal renovations managed by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) in Bahaddarhat. He directed officials to remove embankments blocking water flow and ordered the construction of a Bailey bridge to improve local connectivity.

Following the inspection, the Mayor visited drain and canal cleaning operations in Faridar Para (Ward 4) and Khaja Road (Ward 6). CCC sources confirmed that a month-long intensive cleaning drive is underway across various wards to prepare for the monsoon. Field-level supervision has been intensified to ensure all drainage systems remain functional.
