


The Ministry of Local Government has formed a 19-member committee to coordinate development and essential service work in Chittagong city, with a focus on keeping canals and drainage systems functional throughout the year.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has been appointed as the convener of the committee. The decision was announced (April 30) in an office order signed by Deputy Secretary Ashfiqun Nahar from the Local Government Department.
The committee includes representatives from key agencies such as the Army’s 34th Engineer Brigade, Chittagong WASA, Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Chittagong Port Authority, Power Development Board, and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited. Senior government officials, engineers, and waterlogging experts are also part of the body.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CDA will serve as the member secretary.
According to the office order, the committee will Coordinate development and service activities across the city, Ensure year-round operation of canals and drainage systems, Address waterlogging issues, Monitor progress of ongoing projects, Hold regular coordination meetings, Recommend public-interest measures to the government
The committee is also authorized to include additional members from relevant departments when necessary.
