State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Faridpur-2 MP Shama Obaed Islam has said that the government is actively working to normalize the Indian visa process for Bangladeshi citizens.

Speaking at an Iftar and Doa Mahfil in Saltha upazila of Faridpur on Friday afternoon (February 27), she said discussions have already been held with Indian authorities. The Indian High Commissioner is also scheduled to visit, and both sides remain optimistic about easing visa procedures.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is making arrangements so that Bangladeshi citizens can travel to India smoothly,” she said.

The programme was organised by BNP and its affiliated bodies from Ballabhdi, Sonapur and Jadunandi unions at the Fulbaria High School ground.

Addressing local leaders and activists, Shama Obaed Islam stressed the importance of maintaining law and order in the post-election period. She urged everyone to avoid conflicts and violence in the name of politics.

“Fighting, hospitalisation, lawsuits and attacks bring no benefit,” she said. “If we stop conflicts, we can focus on development—improving roads, education and the future of our people. This requires cooperation from all.”

She said she always considers herself a daughter of the area rather than focusing on her ministerial identity. “Those who voted for me and those who did not—I am the MP for everyone,” she said, adding that she would continue to stand beside the people, following the example of her late father KM Obaidur Rahman.

During the holy month of Ramadan, she instructed party leaders and activists to stay away from all forms of wrongdoing and focus on public service. “If anyone is found involved in illegal activities, the law will take its course, regardless of party, opinion or religion,” she warned.

Among those present were Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Mamun Sarkar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda–Saltha Circle) Mahmudul Hasan, former Saltha upazila BNP president Siddiqur Rahman Talukder, BNP vice-president Md Shahin Matubbar, senior joint general secretary Khandaker Khairul Basar Azad, and former upazila parishad chairman Ohiduzzaman Molya.
