The Pabna Senior Special Judge Court on Wednesday sent Dr. Tanmoy Prakash Biswas, the former Deputy Director of Pabna Mental Hospital, to jail in connection with six corruption cases.
Dr. Tanmoy surrendered to the court at approximately 12:00 PM and applied for bail. The presiding judge rejected the plea after a hearing and ordered him into custody.
According to court records, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director, Md. Shahidul Alam, filed six separate cases against Dr. Tanmoy. The charges involve widespread irregularities and the embezzlement of government funds during his tenure at the hospital.
The ACC's investigation alleges that Dr. Tanmoy misappropriated funds allocated for essential supplies, including patient food and medicine, causing significant financial loss to the state. While defense lawyers argued for his release, the ACC prosecution successfully opposed bail, citing the gravity of the corruption charges.
Following the court's order, Dr. Tanmoy was transported directly to Pabna District Jail. The legal action against the former high-ranking official has drawn significant public attention across the district and within the health department.
