A Chattogram court has sentenced two men to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a drug case filed with the Chandgaon Police Station.
The court of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Afroza Jasmine Koli delivered the verdict on Wednesday (April 29).
The convicts, Md. Mahmud Islam (42) and Md. Yasin (30), are originally from Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, but resided in the city's Chandgaon area.
Court Bench Assistant Nayeem Uddin confirmed that the charges were proven beyond doubt. In addition to the jail term, the court fined each convict 10,000 BDT. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of imprisonment.
The accused were absconding during the verdict, and the court has issued arrest warrants against them.
According to case records, on September 20, 2015, a RAB-7 patrol team conducted a raid near the Bahaddarhat Haque Super Market following a tip-off. The team arrested Mahmud and Yasin as they attempted to flee. Upon searching them, officers recovered 1,000 Yaba pills—600 from Mahmud and 400 from Yasin.
The then DAD of RAB-7, Amal Chanda, subsequently filed the case with Chandgaon Police Station.
