After a series of intense heatwaves at the start of Boishakh, Kalbaisakhi storms began sweeping parts of the country from Monday (April 27). The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds may continue across the country for the next five days.
Due to pressure differences over the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, all four seaports have been advised to display warning signal number 3.
Meteorologist Abdul Hamid said on Wednesday morning that unstable weather conditions are forming over the Bay and inland areas. Thunderclouds are developing widely, bringing rain to many regions. Some places may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall through today and tomorrow, along with thunderstorms.
The BMD warned that waterlogging is likely in low-lying areas due to heavy rain. There is also a risk of landslides in parts of the Chattogram hill tracts.
According to the 7:00 am forecast, Dhaka may see partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms. Winds from the south or southeast may blow at 10–15 km/h. The temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 22.8°C at 6:00 am.
Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:26 pm today, while sunrise on Thursday will be at 5:25 am.
Forecast outlook:
The BMD also noted that rainfall may decrease after the next five days, with temperatures likely to rise again.
