After a series of intense heatwaves at the start of Boishakh, Kalbaisakhi storms began sweeping parts of the country from Monday (April 27). The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds may continue across the country for the next five days.

Due to pressure differences over the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, all four seaports have been advised to display warning signal number 3.

Meteorologist Abdul Hamid said on Wednesday morning that unstable weather conditions are forming over the Bay and inland areas. Thunderclouds are developing widely, bringing rain to many regions. Some places may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall through today and tomorrow, along with thunderstorms.

The BMD warned that waterlogging is likely in low-lying areas due to heavy rain. There is also a risk of landslides in parts of the Chattogram hill tracts.

According to the 7:00 am forecast, Dhaka may see partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms. Winds from the south or southeast may blow at 10–15 km/h. The temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 22.8°C at 6:00 am.

Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:26 pm today, while sunrise on Thursday will be at 5:25 am.

Forecast outlook:

  • Next 24 hours (from April 30, 9:00 am):
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds and lightning are likely in many areas of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and in some areas of Rangpur and Rajshahi. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in parts of Dhaka, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Day temperatures may remain steady, while night temperatures may fall slightly.
  • May 1 (next 24 hours):
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of the country, with moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas. Day temperatures may drop slightly, while night temperatures may stay stable.
  • May 2 (next 24 hours):
Rainfall activity may continue in many regions, especially in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Some areas may receive moderate to heavy rain. Both day and night temperatures may rise slightly.

The BMD also noted that rainfall may decrease after the next five days, with temperatures likely to rise again.
