Torrential rain since early morning has brought both relief and disruption across Bangladesh. While the downpour has submerged roads and caused waterlogging in parts of the capital and elsewhere, it has effectively snapped a punishing heatwave that saw temperatures soaring near 40°C last week.
In Srimangal, Sylhet, the mercury plummeted to a refreshing 18°C following the showers.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicts that rain and thundershowers will continue nationwide until Saturday, May 2. A low-pressure system stretching from West Bengal to the North Bay of Bengal is driving the current weather pattern.
Wednesday: Light to moderate rain with gusty winds and lightning expected in most divisions. Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet may see heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Thursday & Friday: Rain will persist across Dhaka, Barisal, and Khulna, with heavy falls likely in several districts.
Saturday: The intensity is expected to remain high in eastern and central regions before tapering off.
Temperatures are expected to remain steady during this period but will likely rise again starting Sunday as the rain eases. Residents are advised to stay alert for lightning and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
