


Four people, including a child, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram late Tuesday night.
The accident occurred around 11:30 pm at Banshertal area on the Kurigram–Bhurungamari road within Nageshwari Municipality.
The deceased were identified as Shamim Hossain (32) and his daughter Shadia (8), residents of Uttar Tilai village under Shilkhuri union in Bhurungamari upazila. The other victims were Nurnabi (28), son of Jahidul Islam, and Limon (30), son of Saifur Rahman. Limon was the driver of the microbus.
According to police, the collision took place when a truck coming from Bhurungamari crashed head-on with a Rangpur-bound microbus. The impact left the microbus severely damaged.
Two passengers died at the scene. Several injured passengers were taken to a local hospital, where another victim died. Shamim Hossain succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning.
At least 10 others injured in the accident are receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Kurigram General Hospital.
The injured include Yusuf Ali Babu (40), Taimun Nahar (38), Hamidul Islam (24), Jawa (40), Moon (8), Shanta (20), Monir Hossain (40), Shiuli Begum (35), Sifat (12), and Chamir Ali (65).
Shilkhuri Union Parishad Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed the incident.
Officer-in-Charge of Nageshwari Police Station, Abdullah Hill Zaman, said four deaths have been confirmed so far.
The bodies were taken to the victims’ homes on Wednesday morning, triggering scenes of grief across the area.
