An unidentified man, estimated to be around 35 years old, was shot dead by two assailants in the New Market area of the capital on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM near the Battala area, in front of Dhaka University’s Shahnewaz Hostel. According to witnesses, two men wearing masks and caps arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on the victim under a banyan tree.

"The attackers fired several rounds before fleeing. Passersby attempted to chase them, but the shooters fired into the air to intimidate the crowd and escaped on their motorcycle," said Mezbah Rahman, a witness.
