A garment worker was killed and three others were injured after a speeding private car lost control and hit them on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred around 9:30 PM in the Bhabanipur area of Gazipur Sadar Upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Quddus, an assistant cutting man at the NA Jet garment factory in Rajendrapur.

According to eyewitnesses and police, Quddus was waiting for transport on the side of the highway when a Maona-bound car struck him, killing him instantly. The vehicle then crashed into a passenger auto-rickshaw, leaving three people, including the driver, injured.

Locals rescued the injured and shifted them to a nearby hospital.

Shahabur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Salna Highway Police Station, confirmed that police have recovered the body and are sending it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

"Locals seized the car and handed it over to us, though the driver managed to flee the scene. Legal proceedings are currently underway," the OC added.
