Residents of Kashipur village in Lohagara Upazila, Narail, formed a human chain on Wednesday to protest a recent surge in thefts and demand the immediate arrest of those responsible.
The protest took place at 11:30 AM in front of the Lohagara Upazila Parishad gate. Over a hundred villagers from Kashipur, under Shalnagar Union, participated in the hour-long demonstration. Local speakers, including Saddam Hossain, Kazi Tariqul Islam, and Abdul Kader, expressed their frustration over the lack of security.
According to the protesters, thieves have been targeting local mosques for months, stealing IPS units, batteries, microphones, and water pumps. Additionally, household valuables including livestock, gold jewelry, motorcycles, and mobile phones have been frequently reported missing.
"We have approached local representatives multiple times seeking a solution, but no action has been taken," one resident stated. "We were forced to take to the streets to protect our property."
Despite the public outcry, Lohagara Police Station confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that no formal written complaints have been lodged regarding these incidents.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdur Rahman told reporters "I am aware of the human chain formed by the villagers. However, we have yet to receive a formal written complaint. Once a complaint is filed, we will investigate thoroughly and take strict legal action against the perpetrators."
