


Engineer Md. Anwarul Islam has been appointed as the new Chief Equipment Controller (CCS) of the Eastern Zone of Bangladesh Railway.
The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Railways and signed by Deputy Secretary Altaf Hossain.
Before this appointment, Anwarul Islam served as Equipment Controller in the Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway, where he gained recognition for efficient management and administrative work.
A 24th Railway Cadre officer, Anwarul Islam is widely known as a procurement specialist in the railway sector. He obtained a professional diploma from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply in the United Kingdom through a government scholarship. He also holds a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Management.
Officials believe his professional expertise will support efforts to modernise procurement systems and improve equipment management within the railway sector.
One of the major achievements in his career was the implementation of an automated inventory management system in Bangladesh Railway. While serving as Director (Inventory Control), he played a key role in introducing digital systems to improve transparency and accountability in equipment management.
He previously worked as Additional Chief Equipment Controller, gaining extensive experience in managing railway equipment and procurement operations.
Railway officials in the Eastern Zone expressed optimism about his appointment. They believe his leadership will help speed up procurement activities, improve equipment maintenance and strengthen preparations for increased passenger demand during major festivals, including Eid.
The department is also responsible for important tasks such as the repair and maintenance of railway bogies and the procurement of necessary equipment for smooth train operations.
Speaking about his new responsibilities, Anwarul Islam said he would focus on increasing transparency, improving efficiency and ensuring faster decision-making in official work. He also reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to the overall development of Bangladesh Railway.
