


Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Gazipur.
The appointment was announced in a notification issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the notification signed by Deputy Secretary Aminul Islam of the Field Administration Branch, Bhuiyan, a 25th batch officer of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), will take charge as the district’s top administrative official.
Before the appointment, he was serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
Prior to joining the civil service, Nurul Karim Bhuiyan worked as a staff reporter at Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) from 2001 to 2006. During his student life, he also served as president of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association from July 2003 to June 2004.
He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism from University of Dhaka. He later obtained a higher degree from Georgia State University in the United States.
Bhuiyan previously served in several administrative roles, including Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dohar Upazila in Dhaka district from March 2014 to April 2016.
He was promoted from Senior Assistant Secretary to Deputy Secretary on 13 August 2024, with the promotion made effective retrospectively from October 2018. After the promotion, he served in the Ministry of Home Affairs and later as director of the Payra Port Authority.
On 16 November 2024, he was elected president of the BCS 25th Batch All Cadre Forum.
Bhuiyan was interviewed on 12 November 2025 for inclusion in the fit list for Deputy Commissioner positions while serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Statistics and Information Management Division.
Earlier, on 1 March, the government withdrew former Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alam Hossain from the post.
