


Police have arrested journalist Muhammad Asadullah, the ambassador of the yes vote for Pabna-2 constituency and central joint convener of the NCP's youth organization Jatiya Jubo Shakti, in a case of cheque dishonor.
On Friday (February 13), around 1 am, Kamalpur outpost police arrested him from Syedpur village in Hatkhali union of Sujanagar upazila of Pabna and handed him over to Sujanagar police station. Later, the police station produced him in the case and handed him over to the court.
Muhammad Asadullah is the son of Akmal Sikdar of Syedpur village in Hatkhali union of the upazila. He is serving as the joint convener and press wing of the NCP's youth organization Jatiya Jubo Shakti. He is also serving as the media affairs subcommittee of the election management committee. He is also working as a staff reporter for the daily Amar Desh.
Police said that he was sentenced to one month in prison and a fine of three lakh taka in a case of cheque dishonour of a person in Jamalpur district in 2024. He was campaigning in his own area as an ambassador for the referendum in the 13th National Parliament elections. Even though the elections were over, he was staying at home. On Friday night, the police at Kamalpur outpost arrested him and handed him over to the police station. Later, the police station police showed him arrested in that case and handed him over to the court.
However, Asad's family told reporters that on the night after the election (Friday), local Chhatra Dal and BNP leaders and activists went to their house and smeared paint on Asad and his father. When they protested, the Chhatra Dal and BNP leaders and activists attacked Asad. Then, the police called him and arrested him with the intention of harassing him in an old case.
Asadullah's wife Naima Akhter Rima said, "The police took him from his house late on Friday night. They showed him arrested by showing him a case of family conspiracy and harassment. We are surprised that he was taken away from his home so late at night. We demand his immediate release.’
Sujanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman said that he was arrested in a 2024 money loan case. He is a warranted accused in that case. He was arrested and sent to court after receiving secret information.
