The popular 1970s action-packed TV series 'Charlie's Angels' will be back on screen. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series will be re-released after six years.
Sony Pictures initially made two films about Charlie's Angels. Charlie's Angels, released in 2000, and 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, released three years later, were both box office successes.
Sony brought Charlie's Angels back to the big screen in 2019. The film that was released that year flopped at the box office. In the meantime, Sony released a new TV series about Charlie's Angels in 2011. It was canceled after only seven episodes due to lack of popularity.
Sony has already tapped Pete Chiarelli, the writer of The Proposal and Crazy Rich Asians, to rewrite the female detective film. The Hollywood Reporter could not confirm who will serve as executive producer. However, they said that the star of the first film, Drew Barrymore, and her production company, Flower Films, could be involved in the new film. Sony Pictures also did not comment on the matter.
The original Charlie's Angels ran on TV from 1976 to 1981. The series brought its three central characters, Jacqueline Smith, Kate Johnson, and Farrah Fawcett, to worldwide fame.
