Residents of Lakshmipur have voiced their support for Bithika Binte Hossain as a candidate for a reserved women's seat in the 13th National Parliament. Bithika is the widow of the late Shafiul Bari Babu, the former president of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal and a prominent figure in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Since the recent political transition, Bithika has been active in organizing party programs across the Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazilas. Originally from Dalal Bazar in Lakshmipur Sadar, she has built a reputation as a courageous leader, having been involved with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal during her time at Dhaka University.
Bithika's late husband, Shafiul Bari Babu, was widely regarded as a dedicated "soldier of the streets" who championed the rights of BNP leaders and activists. Bithika continues this mission through her humanitarian organization, 'Arpan' (also known as Arpan Alok Sangha), which provides financial and emotional support to the families of party workers who have faced political persecution and hardship.
Local supporters and well-wishers have taken to social media to advocate for her representation in Parliament. They believe her leadership would:
Carry forward her late husband’s dream of developing the neglected coastal regions of Lakshmipur-4. Represent the voices of women and the marginalized in the district. Provide a compassionate and experienced local face to national governance.
Community leaders expressed hope that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the BNP leadership will evaluate Bithika Binte Hossain’s contributions and grant her the opportunity to serve as a Member of Parliament.
