Sirajganj's environmentalist Mahbubul Islam Palash has taken the initiative to visit 64 districts of the country with his own funds to plant trees. As part of this program, he visited Jhalakathi on the night of January 12. During this time, he brought an endangered species of 'Bailam' tree with him.

Although it was not possible to plant the tree immediately due to the night, Palash handed over the Bailam tree to local media workers. The tree will be planted in the garden of the Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner's office.

Mahbubul Islam Palash is a banker by profession. He is the only child of his parents. This tree lover, who has been involved in tree planting and gardening since 2000, has about four thousand different species of trees in his own garden.

Palash said that the main goal of his initiative is to preserve the environment, nature and biodiversity and to preserve endangered species of trees. He started his first journey of tree plantation from Rajshahi district to 64 districts on World Environment Day on June 5, 2025. For the first time, Jhalokati was the 47th district of his program. He said that this district is not only beautiful at night, but also looks even more beautiful in the daytime. It is known that he will come again later. He plants a tree in each district visit.

Mahbubul Islam Palash has been awarded the National Award twice for his contribution to tree plantation and conservation. In recognition of his unique contribution to agriculture and economy, he received the National Agriculture Award 1426. In addition, he won second place in the National Tree Plantation Award (G) category in 2022 for his contribution to tree conservation, research and innovation.
