


A garment worker was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Gazipur’s Kaliganj on Wednesday morning. Two of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
The accident occurred around 6:30 am on the Kaliganj bypass road in the Baligaon Moralbari area.
The deceased was identified as Nur Alam, 32, a resident of Chirirbandar, Dinajpur. He worked at a local garment factory in Gazipur. The injured are Robin, 35, Rashed Rana, 24, Farhad, 19, and Main Uddin, 30.
Police and local sources said the Narsingdi-bound autorickshaw attempted to overtake another vehicle and entered the opposite lane. It then collided head-on with an oncoming truck. A covered van traveling behind the truck was also damaged in the pile-up.
Nur Alam died on the spot. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where two were later referred to Dhaka due to their worsening condition.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Maksudul Kabir Nakib of Kaliganj Police Station confirmed the incident, noting that the body has been recovered and the injured are receiving medical care.
