Father Surrenders After Killing Son in Jhalakathi

A father has surrendered to the police after allegedly hacking his sleeping son to death in Kathalia Upazila early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 4:00 AM in Chonauta village, Amua Union. Police have arrested Md. Barek Khan for the murder of his son, Mehedi Hasan Shuvo Khan (25).

According to local representative Md. Kabir Hossain, Shuvo was reportedly a drug addict and frequently pressured his family for money. On Saturday evening, Shuvo allegedly demanded 3 lakh taka from his father to purchase a motorcycle. When Barek Khan refused, a violent altercation ensued.

Witnesses claim Shuvo later purchased a sharp knife from the Amua market and threatened his father's life. While Shuvo was sleeping later that night, Barek Khan allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon out of "anger and frustration," leading to Shuvo's death on the spot.

Following the murder, Barek Khan traveled to the local police station to turn himself in. Jhalakathi Additional Superintendent of Police (Rajapur Circle) Md. Shah Alam confirmed the arrest and stated that the body has been sent to the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

"Legal proceedings are currently underway," stated ASP Shah Alam.
