Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government’s main goal is to restore public peace and ensure an effective state security system. He made the remarks after visiting the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on Wednesday morning (March 4).
Salahuddin Ahmed said, "A list of extortionists in Dhaka will be prepared soon, and a special operation will be launched against them. Those who are armed or involved in corruption will face the law. The police will no longer follow outdated practices but will become more people-friendly."
The Home Minister added, "This is a people's government. The performance of the current administration should be judged on its own merits, not compared with previous governments. The police are committed to the welfare of the nation, and no policing will be directed by individual interests. Law enforcement will act according to the law."
He also emphasized discipline within the police force: "Some people suffered under past authoritarian practices. The current government follows proper chains of command. No police officer should contact a minister directly, as it undermines discipline."
On traffic management, Salahuddin Ahmed said phased steps will be taken to ease congestion in the capital. "The DMP has been asked to find effective ways to control battery-powered vehicles," he added.
