Undocumented Bangladeshi workers in Jordan can now return home without paying fines or continue working legally under a newly announced general amnesty by the Jordanian government.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Jordan shared the information in a special notice on Wednesday (June 17).

According to the embassy, the amnesty applies to all undocumented foreign workers currently living in Jordan. Under the scheme, eligible workers can leave the country without paying overstay penalties. Those who wish to remain in Jordan may also regularize their status and continue working under certain conditions.

The amnesty also allows workers to change employers. Domestic workers will be able to transfer to new employers, while individuals who entered Jordan on tourist visas may apply for work permits.

The Bangladesh Embassy has urged interested expatriates to contact the embassy for guidance and assistance.

The announcement is expected to provide significant relief to many Bangladeshi workers facing legal and employment difficulties in Jordan.
