The mother of the deceased, Yanur Begum, made these allegations at a press conference organized at the Bhola Press Club on Monday (January 3) alleging the public hacking of a Chhatra Dal leader in Bhola and demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.
In a written statement to the press conference, she said that on December 24, at around 10 pm, her son Sifat Howladar left his house as part of preparations to go to Dhaka for the reception of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
The terrorists, who had been waiting in advance next to his house in Rajapur Union of Bhola Sadar Upazila, ambushed him with country-made weapons. At one stage, they tried to kill him by publicly hacking him. When local people came forward, the attackers fled. Sifat was rescued in serious condition and taken to Bhola Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
He further alleged that the deceased Sifat Hawlader was a presidential candidate of Bhola Rajapur Union Chhatra Dal. Earlier, some of the accused were associated with Awami League politics, but currently they are under the umbrella of Jatiya Party and some influential political figures. He also said that since the incident, the killers have been intimidating and threatening the family in various ways.
He demanded immediate arrest of those involved in Sifat's murder and exemplary punishment and sought the intervention of the chief advisor and higher authorities of the administration in investigating the matter.
