A new bus terminal is being built in Kulgaon area as a major step to resolve traffic congestion in Chattogram. After almost three decades, a new modern terminal is going to be launched in the city, which will normalize the city's entrances as well as ensure convenience for millions of passengers coming from hill districts including Rangamati and Khagrachari.

The bus terminal construction project was taken up in early 2018. The city bus terminal project was approved in July of that year. After that, work could not be started on time due to various complications including land acquisition. It was not possible to complete the construction of the terminal in seven years after extending the time three times. The cost of this terminal built in the city's Jalalabad ward has been estimated at around 140 crore taka. After a long time, most of the physical work is already nearing completion, and those concerned hope that it will be possible to inaugurate it in March 2026.

Currently, there are two bus terminals in Chattogram metropolis, Kadamtali and Bahaddarhat. Buses ply from Kadamtali Bus Terminal to Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Comilla and Branbaria routes, while Bahaddarhat Terminal is used for Chattogram-Cox's Bazar and Chattogram-Kaptai roads. However, traffic congestion has been a major problem in the city for a long time due to the lack of any legal terminals at the three entrances to the city.

The new terminal construction project was started in 2018. Although the work was delayed due to various complications, it is now almost at its final stage. The terminal, built on an area of 8.10 acres, will have adequate facilities for buses and trucks. According to the initial plan, it will have a three-storey building, 25 boarding lanes, information center, public toilets, ticket counters, WiFi facilities, restaurants, first aid stations and accommodation rooms for drivers and helpers, along with other modern amenities.

Jasim Uddin, Project Director of CHS, said that work on developing the infrastructure of the terminal is ongoing. Once construction is complete, tenders will be invited for the operation of the terminal, which will serve as a new revenue stream for the CSC. It is expected that it will be inaugurated by the end of February or early March 2026.
