


A van driver named Dipan Chandra Nath (42) was killed in a speeding vehicle hit by an unidentified vehicle in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogramg. Another pedestrian was injured in the incident.
The deceased Dipan Chandra Nath is the son of Hiralal Chandra Nath of Madhyam Wahedpur area of Wahedpur union of Mirsarai upazila.
The accident occurred at around 8 am on Saturday (December 20) in Kamaldaha area of Mirsarai upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogramg highway.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Dipan Chandra Nath used to drive a rickshaw van to deliver bakery products. Like every day on Saturday morning, he was going towards Baradarogahat via Kamaldaha area after taking products from a godown. At that time, an unidentified speeding vehicle heading towards Chattogramg hit his van. He was thrown out of the van and hit a nearby tree. He suffered a serious head injury. Later, locals rescued him and rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
An injured pedestrian in the same incident was rescued and sent to Chattogramg Medical College Hospital. However, his identity was not immediately known.
In this regard, Kumira Highway Police In-charge Zakir Rabbani said, "A van driver was killed in a hit-and-run by an unknown vehicle in the Kamaldaha area on Saturday morning. The van involved in the accident and the body of the deceased have been recovered and legal action has been taken.
