A youth named Sujan Molla (30) was stabbed to death in a dispute over setting up shop at a waz mahfil in the Darul Aman Trust area of Pabna city.
Police have arrested a youth named Sohan Islam (19) on charges of involvement in the incident.
The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. The deceased Sujan Molla is the son of Saiful Molla of Pipulia village in Pabna's Santhia upazila. On the other hand, the arrested Sohan Islam is the son of Sharif Pramanik of Mahendrapur village in Pabna Sadar upazila.
According to local police sources, an argument broke out between Sujan and Sohan over setting up shop in the adjacent area on the occasion of the waz mahfil organized by Darul Aman Trust. When a heated situation arose, Sohan attacked Sujan with a sharp knife. Locals rescued Sujan in a seriously injured condition and took him to Pabna General Hospital, where the doctor on duty referred him to Rajshahi Medical Hospital. He died on the way.
Confirming the incident, Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dulal Hossain said that after receiving the information, the police quickly conducted a raid and arrested the accused Sohan Islam. He also said, "The arrested person is currently being interrogated. Legal action will be taken against him after the initial interrogation.
Additional law enforcement forces have been deployed in the area in connection with the incident.
