The police have taken into custody two leaders of the Upazila Mahila Dal in Chatmohar, Pabna. They were apprehended during an operation on Wednesday night, December 3.
The individuals arrested are Buri Sarkar (42), the daughter of the late Dr. Kobad Hossain from Madhya Shalikha Mohalla within the municipal council, who served as the senior vice-president of the now-defunct Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal Chatmohar Upazila branch, and Rahima Reza (45), the wife of VP Selim Reza from Baluchar Mohalla of the municipal council, who was the expelled organizing secretary of the same defunct committee.
According to Chatmohar Police Station OC Md. Manjurul Alam, Rahima Reza and Buri Sarkar, who were absconding accused in case number CR 513/25 (Chat) from Pabna Amli Court-04, were captured in a separate operation within the Chatmohar municipal area. An arrest warrant had been issued by the court against them.
The arrested individuals will be transferred to Pabna jail via the court on Thursday, December 4. As per the case report, the plaintiff, Adv. Tamanna Aziza Swarna, who is the General Secretary of the defunct Chatmohar Upazila Women's Party, arrived at the bus stand area (Afratpara) of the municipal council on August 23, 2025, around 5 pm to attend a BNP program. Following a prior dispute, Rahima and Buri Sarkar assaulted Swarna with makeshift weapons, resulting in injuries. Consequently, she lodged a case of attempted kidnapping and murder against the two arrested leaders and several others.
It is important to mention that on September 1, Rahima Reza was dismissed from her position as Organizing Secretary of the defunct committee of the Upazila Women's Party due to allegations of drug dealing and consumption. This incident sparked significant discussion and criticism in Chatmohar, particularly within the political sphere.
