World Egg Day celebrated in Gazipur

Under the theme “Eggs Are Rich in Protein—Eat Daily”, World Egg Day was celebrated in Gazipur on Sunday (October 12) with an awareness program organized by the Gazipur District Livestock Department.

The event began with a discussion session chaired by District Livestock Officer Dr. Nargis Khanum. The program was moderated by Additional District Livestock Officer Dr. Lipi Rani Basak, while Gazipur Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Mohammad Shaheen Mia delivered the welcome speech.

Other speakers included District Training Officer Dr. Selimullah, Deputy Director of Artificial Insemination Center, Gazipur, Md. Salauddin Ahmed, Veterinary Officer Dr. Alomgir Hossain, and livestock officers from Kapasia, Shreepur, Kaliakair, and Kaliganj Upazilas, among others.

Dr. Mohammad Shaheen Mia emphasized that eggs are a highly nutritious food containing 13 essential nutrients, including nine types of amino acids that meet the body’s protein needs. He highlighted eggs as an affordable source of animal protein, often called “the protein of the poor”, and praised their benefits for muscle growth, immunity, brain development in children, and overall health.

The speakers also stressed the importance of antibiotic-free, safe egg production and urged farmers and poultry associations to take necessary measures.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Nargis Khanum added that encouraging daily consumption of one egg and a glass of milk can significantly fulfill the body’s protein requirement. She also highlighted the importance of awareness programs in promoting nutritional knowledge among the public.

The celebration concluded with a colorful rally organized by the District Livestock Department, which paraded through the city’s main streets before returning to the starting point.
