The Narcotics Control Department has arrested Raju Ahmed (20) with 50 pills of Yaba tablets at Truck Hotel Jonaki-2 at the head of Lalarpol Road on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in an anti-drug operation in Chouddagram, Comilla.

The arrested Raju was working as a doorman at the hotel. According to sources, Truck Hotel Jonaki-2 is owned by Arifur Rahman, vice-president of the banned organization Chhatra League's Kalikapur Union. The drug recovery has created widespread discussion and excitement in the area about the ownership of the hotel.

A team from the Narcotics Control Department, Comilla 'A' Circle conducted the operation on Monday (January 12, 2026) afternoon based on secret information. During the operation, the Yaba tablets were recovered from the doorman Raju Ahmed during a search of the hotel.

Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector of Narcotics Control Department, Comilla ‘K’ Circle Tuntu Moni Chakma said, “Drugs are pushing society and youth towards destruction. The Narcotics Control Department, Comilla is following a zero tolerance policy to eradicate drugs. Based on a secret tip-off, 50 packets of Yaba tablets were recovered in a drive. In this incident, Raju Ahmed, the doorman of Jonaki-2 Hotel, has been arrested and a regular case has been registered against him under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

He further said that no one involved in drug trade will be spared and such drives will continue to eradicate drugs. Locals have alleged that despite repeated drives by the administration, mainly hotel employees or doormen are being arrested. Hotel owner and banned organization Chhatra League leader Arifur Rahman has repeatedly escaped capture. Locals have also claimed that if Arifur Rahman is not brought under the law and exemplary punishment is provided, the entire area will not be able to control the drug trade. Not possible. They have raised the question - why is the owner repeatedly exempted from responsibility even though the same hotel has been raided multiple times, Yaba has been recovered and arrested?

According to the locals, small employees will be caught, cases will be filed but influential people will remain hidden. This way, drugs will not be eradicated. We want everyone to be equal in the eyes of the law. The doorman Raju Ahmed, who was arrested in this incident, has been sent to jail through the court. The recovered drugs have been deposited at the Narcotics Control Department, District Office, Comilla.
