A discussion took place in Kurigram with civil society representatives advocating for the active involvement and leadership growth of women and youth in the forthcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.

This discussion occurred on Wednesday morning (November 26) at the Zilla Parishad Hall Room, organized by Udayankur Sheba Sangstha in collaboration with the European Union and Action Aid Bangladesh as part of the Civil Society Project.

The dialogue commenced with a vibrant rally featuring various banners, which started from the Zilla Parishad, circled around Shapla Chattar, and concluded back at the Zilla Parishad. Participants included women, youth, civil society members, and individuals from various professions. Subsequently, students from different schools and colleges posed numerous questions related to the elections to the invited guests. Topics discussed included the use of PVC banners during elections, affixing posters to trees, the involvement of children in campaigns, cyberbullying, and soliciting tips for voting, among others.

Moreover, the dialogue underscored the numerous challenges faced in engaging women and youth in inclusive, participatory, and accountable electoral processes. The conversation also aimed at motivating first-time voters and raising public awareness regarding the limitations associated with reserved seats for women.

The event featured prominent guests, including Kazi Shafiqur Rahman, Principal of Kurigram Government Women's College; Humayun Kabir, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Department; Salma Khatun, District Assistant Election Officer; and M. Rashid, General Secretary of Kurigram Hub. Additionally, representatives from the MAJ, including Rabiul Islam, Project Coordinator of Udayankur Sheba Sangstha, were present. The session was chaired by Saida Yasmin, President of Kurigram District Hub.
