In a significant boost to border security ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections, the Phulbari Battalion (29 BGB) recovered foreign firearms, ammunition, and a large haul of narcotics during a special operation early Wednesday.
Acting on intelligence reports of a potential weapons and drug consignment entering the country, a smart patrol team took positions in the Gilabari border area of Dinajpur Sadar. At approximately 3:25 AM, BGB members spotted a group of smugglers approximately 200 yards inside Bangladeshi territory.
As the BGB personnel moved in to intercept, the smugglers fled back across the border into India, abandoning six sacks. A subsequent search of the bags revealed, 2 foreign "one-shooter" guns, 4 rounds of live ammunition, 100 bottles of Phensedyl, 500 units of narcotic injections and 52 bottles of foreign liquor and spirits.
Lieutenant Colonel AM Jaber Bin Jabbar, Commander of the 29 BGB Battalion, confirmed the seizure. "We have intensified surveillance and established additional check posts to prevent any untoward incidents as the national election approaches," he stated.
He reaffirmed the BGB's commitment to maintaining a crime-free border and ensuring public safety during this critical period.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commander Major Md. Aminur Rahman and Assistant Director Md. Mizanur Rahman.
