Government Employees Protest for New Pay Scale

A protest procession and sit-in program have been held in Nageshwari, Kurigram, to implement the 7-point demands including the gazette publication of the 9th pay scale. They held the protest and sit-in program in the upazila premises from 9 am to 11 am with the participation of government officials and employees of various departments of the upazila.

During the program, a protest procession at 9 am circled the important roads of the upazila town and came to the same place to participate in the sit-in program. The government officials and employees participating in the program raised various slogans to realize their demands and strongly demanded that the higher authorities take immediate steps to implement the demands.

The speakers said that although the movement has been going on for a long time to implement the 7-point demands including the gazette publication of the 9th pay scale without discrimination, no effective steps have been taken yet. They warned of stricter programs in the future if the demands are not met quickly.

Shahidul Islam, president of the Upazila Teachers' Association and headmaster of Ideal High School, Alam Mia, field officer of Palli Sanchay Bank, Ali Ahmed Raj, spray mechanic of the Agriculture Officer's Office, Sohel Rana and many others spoke at the sit-in program.
