BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed a massive crowd at Barishal’s historic Bells Park today (February 4), marking his first visit to the southern division in two decades.
Arriving by helicopter from Dhaka at noon, the BNP chief was met by thousands of supporters who had gathered since dawn. The rally, described by local organizers as a "historic milestone," serves as a major show of strength for the party ahead of the national elections scheduled for February 12.
This visit is Tarique Rahman's first return to the region since May 2006. Addressing the "human sea," the party chief outlined his vision for the southern region, promising a "complete transformation" in infrastructure and development if the BNP is voted into power.
Local leaders noted that the scale of the gathering was unprecedented, requiring an expansion of the permanent stage at Bells Park to accommodate the influx of senior officials.
Following his speech, the BNP Chairman is scheduled to fly to Faridpur to continue his final week of electoral engagements.
