Bangladesh was struck by three earthquakes on Tuesday, including two moderate tremors near the Myanmar border within a 17-minute window.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.9-magnitude earthquake at 9:33 pm local time, followed quickly by a 5.2-magnitude tremor at 9:51 pm. Both originated at a depth of 67.8 km. While the twin night tremors caused brief panic across several districts, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
Earlier that morning at 4:36 am, a separate 4.1-magnitude earthquake hit the southwestern district of Satkhira. Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana characterized the early-morning quake as "light," noting it had minimal impact on the region.
