


A gas fire in Alfadanga, Faridpur, has gutted four homes belonging to four people in the same village. Furniture, electrical goods and cash in the houses have been gutted. The affected families said that about 10 lakh taka worth of goods were gutted in the fire.
It is learnt that the fire broke out at 11 am on Sunday due to a gas cylinder leakage from the house of Enayet Mandal of Mandalbari in Foliya village of Buraich union of the upazila. Within moments, the fire spread to other rooms in the house.
Locals and the Alfadanga Fire Service reached the spot and tried for an hour to bring the fire under control. The family said that the fire caused damage to four homes, a kitchen, electrical goods, furniture and cash in the house worth about 10 lakh taka.
The affected families are Enayet Mandal, Tohidul Islam Mandal, Rabiul Mandal and Enamul Mandal of Folia village. Having lost everything, the families are now living under the open sky.
Alfadanga Fire Service Station Leader Kohinur Islam said that the fire started from a gas cylinder while cooking in the morning. It is initially estimated that the fire caused damage of about 1 million taka.
Upazila Executive Officer Russell Iqbal said that he will provide all possible assistance to the families affected by the fire.
