A devastating fire at a residential building in Uttara Sector 11 left three members of the same family dead early Friday morning.
The fire broke out at approximately 7:50 am on the second floor of the seven-story building. Upon receiving the report, two firefighting units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot within eight minutes.
Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control by 8:25 am, preventing the fire from spreading to the upper floors. Three bodies—one man and two women—were recovered from the second-floor flat. Thirteen other residents were safely evacuated from the building.
The rescued individuals were rushed to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital for treatment. Fire Service official Talha Bin Jasim confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished by 10:00 am. Rafiq Ahmed, an official from the Uttara West Police Station, stated that all three victims belonged to the same family. "We are working on identifying the deceased. It will take some time to complete the formal process," he said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest the fire originated on the second floor, but officials are still determining if an electrical short-circuit or a gas leak was the trigger.
