


Firefighters recovered five bodies after a massive blaze tore through a gas lighter factory in the capital’s Kadamtali area on Saturday afternoon.
Anwarul Islam Dolan, media cell officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters, confirmed the fatalities. The identities of the victims have not yet been established. One man, rescued from the site with injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The Fire Service received reports of the fire at 1:13 pm. Seven firefighting units responded to the scene, battling the flames for nearly 90 minutes. The blaze was officially brought under control by 2:30 pm, preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings in the densely populated industrial zone.
Investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are ongoing.
