Dr. Rezaul Karim, the Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate for the Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency, has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of hindering democratic rights and engaging in targeted harassment.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday morning after visiting injured party workers at the District Sadar Hospital, Dr. Karim urged both law enforcement and senior BNP leadership to restrain activists involved in "terrorist activities."
Allegations of Harassment and Cyber Attacks Dr. Karim claimed that Jamaat members are being repeatedly excluded from local political meetings and that female workers have faced harassment. He also highlighted a surge in social media hostility. Propaganda: Allegations that BNP supporters are spreading misinformation on Facebook. Direct Threats: Claims of receiving threats via digital platforms from individuals both within the country and abroad. Administrative Silence: Dr. Karim questioned why law enforcement has remained "silent" regarding provocative social media posts, noting that such actions were dealt with more strictly in the past.
The candidate's remarks followed a violent confrontation on Thursday afternoon in Syedpur village, under Charshahi union. The clash reportedly ignited during a program organized by Jamaat's women's wing. At least 10 people from both BNP and Jamaat were injured during the skirmish.
The arrival of the injured led to a heated standoff at the hospital premises, requiring a strong police presence to restore order. District Jamaat Secretary A.R. Hafiz Ullah and City Jamaat Amir Abul Farah Nishan were also present during the hospital visit.
