A construction crane collapsed on a busy road in Samut Sakhon province near Bangkok on Thursday, crushing two vehicles and killing two people. The incident comes just 24 hours after a separate crane tragedy in the country's northeast claimed the lives of 32 train passengers.
The latest collapse occurred Thursday morning at a site where an elevated highway is being built. Police Colonel Sitthiporn Kasi, superintendent of the local district station, confirmed that the crane fell from the project onto the roadway below. Local police also reported that five others were injured in the accident.
This is the second major construction-related disaster in Thailand in two days. On Wednesday, a crane involved in an elevated high-speed rail project collapsed onto a passenger train in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
The train derailment resulted in 32 deaths and left 66 of the 195 passengers injured. Authorities are currently investigating both incidents as public anger grows over safety standards at major infrastructure sites.
