The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) placed four officials on Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Thursday night in connection with the harassment allegations made by former national women's team captain Jahanara Alam. The BCB stated it is taking the matter seriously.
The four officials placed on OSD are manager S M Golam Faiyaz, physio Suraiya Akter, coach Mahmud Emon, and official Sarfaraz Babu. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the decision, noting that the board acted on those who had been alleged against.
Manjurul Islam, the former manager and selector of the women's team and the primary accused, is currently in China. In a Facebook post on Friday night, he welcomed the BCB's inquiry committee and expressed his willingness to face any investigation.
The BCB officially formed an inquiry committee on Saturday to investigate the allegations and the committee head is retired Justice Tariq ul Hakim (Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh). The other members are newly appointed BCB director Rubaba Dowla and Senior Advocate Barrister Sarowat Siraj Shukla.
The placement of the officials on OSD and the formation of a high-powered inquiry committee underscore the seriousness with which the BCB is treating the allegations that have impacted the country's sporting community.
