Brazilian midfielder Oscar, aged 34, suffered a major health emergency after collapsing and losing consciousness for approximately two minutes during a routine pre-season physical test, specifically an interval test on an exercise bike, at Sao Paulo's training complex.
The incident was attributed to cardiac complications. The player received immediate attention from club doctors and medical staff from Einstein Hospital Israelita on-site before being transported via ambulance to the hospital. Sao Paulo confirmed in a statement that Oscar is currently in a stable condition but is admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for close observation and further diagnostic testing.
No discharge date has been scheduled. The health scare has reportedly led Oscar to consider retirement, despite only returning to his boyhood club, Sao Paulo, in December 2024 on a three-year contract under coach Hernan Crespo.
Oscar previously spent eight successful years with Shanghai Port in China, where he won three Chinese Super League titles, and had a high-profile stint at Chelsea (2012–2016), winning the Premier League and Europa League. He is also a 48-time capped Brazilian international.
