A local leader of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has been expelled over alleged involvement in violence linked to a dispute over Eid congregation timing in Faridpur.
Sohel Munshi, senior joint convener of Kotwali Thana unit, was expelled following an internal investigation that found evidence of anti-disciplinary activities, according to a press release issued by the district unit on Monday.
The decision was taken jointly by District President Syed Adnan Hossain and General Secretary Tanjimul Hasan Kayes, and came into effect immediately.
Leaders said the organisation maintains strict discipline and will take action against anyone violating its rules.
The incident took place on Saturday in Kanaipur union of Faridpur Sadar upazila, where clashes reportedly broke out over the timing of Eid Jamaat and issues related to the mosque imam’s salary. Victims alleged vandalism and looting, claiming losses of around Tk 1 crore.
Police said a case has been filed against Sohel Munshi and several others. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Ajmir Hossain, four suspects have been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to maintain law and order in the area.
